Gamification of the Classroom to Support the Use of Learning Strategies

Anne McDougall has been working on a gamification project, in grades 2 to 6, with both regular and enriched ESL classrooms.
Students' participation allows them to earn points towards achieving levels and earning privileges. Specific learning strategies and cooperative behaviours are rewarded by the teacher who uses feedback to shape students into better learners. Students are always aware of their progress and grade, and the evaluative criteria is created with student input.
For the students, there is not only the pleasure of playing while learning, but there is the satisfaction of knowing how to demonstrate their knowledge.
Teachers learn to appreciate how the use of feedback in this context will clearly and directly contribute to shaping students into better learners.
Videos and helpful documents will be presented.
